AC-Transit ~ I'm Disappointed

To all you AC Transit bus drivers who are on a "sickout":

Have you considered the consequences of your actions?

Where is your compassion?

I was on the bus the other day and the bus driver decided not to stop at a regular stop. One not affected by the recent changes in schedule. He then stopped about 5 blocks away from the stop where he should have even though it was requested by the several elderly people on the bus. When they asked him what they were supposed to do now because they can hardly walk as it is he told them to get off the bus and walk. He just didn't care since he wasn't getting his concessions from the union negotiations. (Yes, I heard him on the phone while he was chatting - not hands free - while driving).

Do you have any sense of neighborly love?

Since you have decided to have your "sickout" over a few extra dollars and benefits many people have lost their jobs because of the resulted delays and cancellations of service. Many elderly people have had to cancel appointments to their Dr's and have suffered tremendously over your actions.

Where is your self respect?

At the end of the day when you go home and reflect on your day and what you have accomplished consider this:
Today you stood up for yourself and showed the MAN what you could do to hurt him if he doesn't give you what you want, sure...You sat on the floor kicking and screaming, refusing to move like a two year old throwing a tantrum with your fingers in your ears so you can't hear what the rest of your community is trying to tell you.

YOU have let US down. We needed you and you abandoned us in our time of need. All we asked is that you stick it out while the negotiations continued. If this is a job you truly love then you would have felt the sense of pride in offering a vital service to your community. If you really didn't like your job all that much you should have quit a long time ago. Don't make us suffer because you need a few extra dollars. Find a better job, one in which other's lives are not going to be affected in such vital areas because you decided to strike.

I completely understand the need for fairness in the workplace and the desire for a better life. I understand that if you don't fight for what you need in life that others will take advantage of you. I get it. Just don't make us suffer so you can get what you want. That is a little selfish, don't you think?

Now, I am walking out to the the bus stop. Praying to the bus gods that I get to my destination on time. Don't let me down bus driver.

Water Can Cure Anything (Proof)

You think I'm crazy. I have proof though. Ok, maybe not that water can cure anything but I can prove that people think that water can cure anything.

Proof:
                I am going to refer to the all-wise entertainment industry again. Have you ever watched a movie and someone receives very bad news? The news breaker will almost always ask "can I get you a glass of water?" or tell someone else "get her/him some water". Amazing isn't it ! How a glass of water could cure or at least take the edge off of our psychological trauma.

Example:
                Police Detective: I'm sorry to have to tell you this ma'am but your husband was found at the bottom of a ravine. He was thrown from his car when the it skidded off the road and then the car landed on top of him.

                Woman covers her eyes and starts sobbing.

                Police Detective to Uniform : Don't just stand there get her a glass of water.

HTH is that supposed to help? Is there some kind of magic mind numbing water that I don't know about? Let me just be the first to say, if anything traumatizing happens to me and you bring me a glass of water it better be followed by a valium or two or some other mind numbing drugs.

By the way, this magic water also helps with all other types of trauma including but not limited to: major burns, crushed bones, minor cuts and scrapes, decapitation :/ , labor during childbirth (in the form of ice chips made from magic water), and all types of shock (even though I was taught by the Red Cross that people in shock shouldn't drink water or other liquids/food. They apparently didn't know about the "magic water" that makes it all better.

So the next time you hear someone in the movies say "get her a glass of water" ask yourself... WHY?

(not real proof so don't go out buying up all the smartwater in your local grocery store - Perrier is pretty close to perfect though IMHO)

Yeah, I guess Doctors forget what things are called too.

Have you ever noticed, while sitting in the exam room, that there are posters all over the walls? Posters of human anatomy like your bones and your circulatory system. If you are lucky you will actually get to see a little soft porn or as my Dr puts it "the reproductive system".

You see, my Dr has never referred to said posters and I have been to see many doctors over the years. Never once has a doctor pointed to something on the "Lymphatic System" poster and said "see here, this is what is swollen up in you".

This leaves me to only one conclusion. Doctors forget what stuff is called. These are your doctors 'cheat sheets'. So the next time you catch your doctor glancing over his shoulder be advised. He's just trying to figure out what your thingamagiggy is and why it's all puffy and red.

How To Tell If Something / Someone Is Evil

The key to this age old dilemma is as simple as the color red.

The last time you watched a monster movie what color were its eyes? When the robots in I-Robot went bad what color did they turn? The Chupacabra? Yep, red eyes. If aliens come to earth it won't be the anal probing that gives their evil intent away, it will be their red eyes or their radiating red aura. Satan? Always portrayed as red. Those super hot Hot Tamales candies... yeah, sometimes you get a really really hot one in the bunch. It was just hiding in there with the others. It's red.

Red rover red rover. Need I say more about that? I don't think so.

The Red Baron, Red October, Red Dawn, Red Sonia ( Whoever wrote that one must have been evil). Even the Nazi's swastikas were red.

So, the next time you see something red or see someone a little pinker than they should be... Beware!

The Ugly Truth of Fantasy - Dispelling The Misconceptions

So, I have been playing the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins. Yeah, I am a big fantasy RPG fan.

As I play more RPG's and read more fantasy a few questions come to mind. Questions that I am not sure have been satisfactorily answered in the past.

1. How can you dispell a spell with a spell? Isn't that like trying to dry up water with more water?

2. Can you really petrify a stone golem? Wouldn't "stone to flesh" work better? That would really freak out the golem, being all squishy and stuff.

I think I will try to answer these questions and a few others in my new book.

I am expecting a package via FedEx on Friday. I am curious to see if they will grasp the concept of the intercom system. UPS has yet to hire someone who knows how to use it. I'm taking bets on who hires smarter delivery people. What do you think?

UPS - The Antichrist?

Ok, so the title is a bit over-dramatic but I am seriously thinking that UPS is run by Satan and that he's out to get me. Either that or Karma is lurking around the corner laughing it's ass off.

Here's my latest UPS story:

I order a new laptop on December 17th and although I pay for 2nd day delivery it's not picked up in time before the weekend and it was scheduled to arrive on Monday the 21st. Ok, I'm not super impatient at this point although the anticipation is killing me.

I live in a secure building and delivery drivers are supposed to enter the building like any other non-resident, by using the intercom system to call the person you want to see. So I am watching the package move across the country via the UPS website I notice that it says that they attempted to deliver my package but that I was unavailable to sign, a 2nd delivery attempt will be made the following day. Funny thing, I never heard the intercom or a knock on my door. Five minutes later I hear a loud bang at my front door and go to see what it is. A different package that I was expecting was ever so gently thrown down the hall and at my door. Obviously a different UPS driver than the one who is carrying my laptop.

At this point I am a little peeved at UPS. I am wondering if they are too dumb to figure out how to use the intercom or too lazy. Maybe it's written in the UPS manual somewhere that intercoms are evil. So I am sitting at home thinking about who to call and complain to knowing that it will not make a difference and my phone rings. It's the concierge from the building down and across the street from me. She says that UPS delivered my package to her building and that she would hold it for me. YaY ! I say to myself. UPS delivery by proxy. They should make that an option when you send packages and just charge less.

I go to pick up my package from the nice lady who signed my name :o and notice that the box only weighs about 4 lbs. My laptop weighs almost ten so I knew that there had been a mistake in the delivery. Best Buy sent me a keyboard instead of my laptop. But that's a whole different story. I still haven't received my laptop but am expecting it tomorrow by UPS Express. I am sure I will be adding another complaint to this blog before the end of the day tomorrow.
